PHOENIX –- The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) North Valley Posses has launched a fundraising campaign to purchase new equipment that has become required due to upgrades at the Maricopa Sheriff’s Office. These items are necessary for the North Valley Posse to fulfill their mission of serving the Anthem and North County communities.
The MCSO North Valley Posse is made up of men and women who live in and serve the area. Non-compensated Posse positions are comprised of people from all walks of life who want to perform law enforcement work as a way to give back to the community. These volunteers donate not only time, but must pay for their individual uniforms, duty equipment, hand guns and long guns. The average volunteer has between $1,500 to $4,000 invested out of their own pocket. The average Posse volunteer has between 100 to 500 hours dedicated to training.
The MCSO North Valley Posse receives no funding from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, or any other public agency. “This fundraising campaign is critical to ensure we are able to provide the support needed for the largely understaffed law enforcement officers we have out in the field. In 2015, the local Posse groups saved county taxpayers many millions of dollars in law enforcement costs.” said MCSO North Valley Posse Commander, Mike Rowe.
The MCSO North Valley Posse fundraising campaign will focus on the purchase of tasers, and radio equipment as well as the operation and depreciation of the equipment. Posse members are self-insured for vehicles and equipment.
The MCSO has upgraded their radio equipment and tasers to the latest standards and will transition beginning September 2016. “In order to continue to support their office, the MCSO North Valley Posse must update our equipment at a cost of approximately $140, 000. This need is urgent as our current radios will no longer function on the system by the end of 2017.”, said Commander Rowe.
The MCSO North Valley Posse is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. All donations made to the MCSO North Valley Posse are tax deductible.
