SCOTTSDALE – Join MusicaNova Orchestra (MNO) for the opening of their 2016-17 season at a free public concert featuring popular Valley classical clarinetist Alex Dergal, on Sunday August 21, at 3:00 PM, at Scottsdale Presbyterian Church, 3421 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale 85251. Information is available at www.musicanovaaz.com
Dergal is a graduate of Mesa Dobson High, now entering his junior year at the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio. His program includes music from Leonard Bernstein and Johannes Brahms, and one selection from the ambitious Quartets for the End of Time by Olivier Messiaen; Dergel will perform the entire work in December at Oberlin.
Dr. Jeremy Peterman, one of the Valley’s most sought after musical colleagues, joins Dergal as collaborative pianist. The event is part of MNO’s free Collaborative Concert Series, presenting a variety of musical styles in an informal setting.
Appearing in the series later this season are the Dry River Yacht Club (Nov 20), the MNO Chamber Orchestra with guests from Harmony Project-Phoenix (Feb 19), and Traditional China (Apr 2), featuring music on period instruments that date back over 8,000 years.
MusicaNova is a professional symphony orchestra founded in the Valley in 2003. MNO also presents its Orchestra Concert Series and Young Artists Concert Series at venues in Phoenix, conducts extensive educational outreach with Valley schools, and sponsors the unique MNO
Composition Fellows Program for hands-on mentoring of emerging composers. MNO Collaborative Concerts are supported by a grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts and venue sponsor Scottsdale Presbyterian Church.
