Arizona Game and Fish Department, Liberty Wildlife to release four great-horned owls orphaned in March

The Arizona Game and Fish Department and Liberty Wildlife will release four orphaned baby great horned owls that were rescued after their mother was shot in March by a homeowner in Tolleson. The homeowner recently pled guilty to shooting the federally protected owl and was ordered to pay more than $4,000 in restitution.

Following the rescue, the owlets were raised with the aid of a foster female great horned owl at Liberty Wildlife. The owls are now ready to be released into the wild at Robbins Butte Wildlife Area, a remote area about seven miles southwest of Buckeye.

Robbins Butte is comprised of approximately 1,681 acres of desert upland, agricultural and relict riparian habitats that attract a variety of wildlife species, including great horned owls.
