Friday July 15 and Saturday July 16
Corner of Hollamon Street and Main Street in downtown
Camp Verde: For the past quarter century the Camp Verde Cornfest has celebrated the annual sweet corn crop grown on the banks of the Verde River by Hauser Farms. But the Cornfest has always been much more than that. It is a celebration of families and summer, as well as Camp Verde’s rich agricultural history and the simple joys of small town life.
All festivities will take place in downtown Camp Verde, at the community center and soccer field on Hollamon Street and at Fort Verde, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday July 15 and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday July 16. Offsite parking will be available in the Bashas’ parking lot with a shuttle to the downtown.
The Cornfest will offer plenty of fire-roasted sweet corn to gnaw on, sacks of corn to take home and a long list of old fashioned games and activities for the entire family. There will be hot air balloon rides on Saturday morning (weather permitting), a craft fair, vendors of all kinds, food, live music and a beer garden. Fort Verde State Park will host an adobe brickmaking workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday and a vintage base ball (that’s how it was spelled in the 1880’s) game at noon.
The Verde Valley Farmers Market will be in full swing on Saturday from 8 to noon. The historic 1933 jail will be open for tours and photo ops. The Camp Verde Historical Society Museum and the Verde Valley Archaeology Center will also be open. And the Cornfest just wouldn’t be the Cornfest without the annual Corn Hole Contest. Grab yourself a doubles partner and plan to come down Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. There are cash prizes for the winners.
