CAREFREE/CAVE CREEK/N. SCOTTSDALE – “My riders thank me over and over again for driving them to their destinations. I am humbled. Being a volunteer driver is one of the greatest gifts I can give to members of my community. I have never met a rider I wouldn’t want to bring home and share with my family. My riders and their independence is the best part of being a volunteer driver.” –Quote from a volunteer.
The mission of the Foothills Caring Corps is to promote independence and enhance the quality of life for seniors and adults with disabling conditions. The Caring Corps just celebrated its 17th year of providing services in Carefree, Cave Creek, North Scottsdale and North Phoenix.
The success of the Foothills Caring Corps is only possible with the generosity and support of volunteers and donors. All Caring Corps services are provided by a dedicated force of volunteers. As the population in the North Valley area grows older and the need for services steadily increases, there is a critical need for volunteers to be able to meet those needs. Many seniors and adults with disabling conditions are no longer able to drive and with no public transportation in the area, many become homebound. Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back to the community. Some of the volunteer opportunities are delivering a hot, nutritious lunch time meal, volunteering on a van trip with a group of fun and lively adults, or providing a ride to their doctor appointment for a neighbor.
In home services provided by the Caring Corps include Mobile Meals, Friendly Visiting and Phoning, Pet Visiting, Caregiver Relief, Minor Home Repair, Computer and Business Help, and Health Advocacy. Transportation services include transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, as well as group outings to shopping, restaurants, the library and concerts in a fleet of 7 vans, 3 of which are wheelchair accessible. There is a medical equipment Loan Closet on site where those in need can borrow a wheelchair, walker, shower chair, commode, and other medical equipment.
