Scottsdale Civil War Roundtable is pleased to announce Wayne Motts will present “Fighting the Civil War: Historical Treasurer of the Conflict in the Collection of the National Civil War Museum” on November 15, 2016.

Wayne E. Motts holds two degrees in history and has been a licensed battlefield guide at the Gettysburg National Military Park for twenty-eight years. He was the curator of the Cumberland County Historical Society in Carlisle, Pennsylvania from 2002-2004 and the artifact collections manager at the Adams County Historical in Gettysburg from 2004-2005. In 2005 he was named executive director of the Society, a position he held for seven years.  He became the CEO of The National Civil War Museum (www.nationalcivilwarmuseum.org) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in the spring of 2012.  His is the co-author with James A. Hessler of Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg:  A Guide to the Most Famous Attack in American History (Savas Beatie, CA: 2015)

Opened in 2001, The National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania is one of the largest museum in the country dedicated to telling the complete story of the war from the viewpoint of both sides.  The Museum holds more than 4,000 three dimensional artifacts and over 21,000 archival items including manuscripts, diaries, letters, photographic images, newspapers, and correspondence dating from 1861-1865.  Join the Museum’s CEO Wayne Motts on a journey of the history of the war illustrated by some of the nation’s rarest surviving Civil War artifacts in the museum’s collection.

The Scottsdale Civil War Round Table meets the third Tuesday of every month (except June, July & August) at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library (Auditorium) 3839 N Drinkwater Blvd Scottsdale.  Speakers are comprised of well-known Civil War experts from around the country.  The group supports battlefield preservation through the Civil War Trust.  All are welcome.  For more information: www.scottsdalecwrt.org -or- 480-699-5844
