Retired judge and former Mayor Boyd Dunn to run for Arizona Corporation Commission
CHANDLER – Retired Superior Court Judge and former Chandler Mayor Boyd Dunn has announced he is running for Arizona Corporation Commission.
Boyd brings more than 37 years of legal experience to the race. Dunn served as an Assistant Attorney General and mayor of the fourth largest city in Arizona. During his time in private practice, Dunn was a partner at Yarbrough, Moll and Dunn.
“The role of a commissioner is very similar to that of a judge, to be the impartial decision-maker based on the facts presented to you on each individual case, regardless of personal feelings or outside influences,” said Boyd Dunn. “That is how I ran my court, and that is how I will serve as a Corporation Commissioner. The function of the Arizona Corporation Commission is critically important to the success of our state. It’s time we move past all the rhetoric and return to the basics of protecting the public interest.”
Prior to being appointed to the bench, Dunn served as Mayor and Councilmember in the City of Chandler. Many of the policies Dunn enacted helped usher in an era of prosperity for the city. During Dunn’s leadership, Chandler grew from 90,000 people to more than 240,000. While serving as mayor, Chandler added $5 billion in private investment and over 16,000 new jobs. Under Dunn’s leadership, Chandler received an “All-American City” award by the National Civic League.
As Mayor, Dunn also saw first hand the role public utilities play in the success of our business environment. During his tenure at the City of Chandler, Dunn oversaw the city water and wastewater department and presided over public rate case hearings. During this time, Chandler maintained some of the lowest rates in the Valley.
