Cave Creek Bike Week opens to fatality and lane closures

CAVE CREEK – A motorcyclist identified as Scott Edwards Jr., 36, of Glendale was transported to Honor Health Deer Valley Hospital on Sunday with life-threatening injuries, and where he was later pronounced dead, following an accident at the intersection of Cave Creek and School House roads.

According to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Edwards was traveling west on Cave Creek Road when he failed to stop at the four-way stop sign at School House Road and ran into another vehicle that was turning left.

According to witnesses, Edwards appeared to be driving erratically before the collision and detectives are investigating whether impairment may have been a factor.

Meanwhile, citizens have expressed their displeasure at the lane closures over the weekend to accommodate motorcycles during Bike Week after enduring months of lane closures through the town core for the construction of bicycle lanes.
