Scottsdale Concert Band performs March 6


On Sunday, March 6, the Scottsdale Concert Band will perform the world premiere of the concert band arrangement of Concerto in A Major by Alex Blumenfeld, featuring pianist Andrew O’Brien.

The free concert will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Saguaro High School Auditorium, 6250 N. 82nd St., Scottsdale. The concert is titled “From Russia With Love.”

Also on the program will be “Bond…James Bond,” arranged by Stephen Bulla; “Russian Folk Dances”; and “The Fire of Eternal Glory,” by Shostakovich.

O’Brien received his doctoral degree in piano performance from Arizona State University. He has performed at Boston College, Dartmouth College and the University of New Hampshire and in Italy under the auspices of the Rockefeller Foundation.

He currently is an adjunct faculty instructor in piano and music theory at Scottsdale Community College and also teaches privately in the Phoenix area. The 75-member community band, now in its 38th season, is directed by Michele Kalo and sponsored by Scottsdale Community College.
