Arizona Game and Fish seeks public commenton rules governing wildlife areas and department properties

PHOENIX — The Arizona Game and Fish Department is currently reviewing its Article 8, Wildlife Areas and Department Properties, rules as part of a scheduled periodic review process.

The department is seeking public comment on the proposed changes to Article 8. The summary of the proposed rule changes can be accessed online.

Arts Council of the North Valley presents “Songs of Ireland”

Performance Commemorates Unique Irish history and culture

ANTHEM -- Áine Mulvey (Mezzo-Soprano) and Anne-Marie O’Farrell (harp) present “Songs of Ireland” at the Anthem Civic Building, 3701 W. Anthem Way in Anthem, Arizona, as part of the “I am Ireland” cultural event marking the centenary of the 1916 Rising. The performance will be held on March 12, 2016 at 7:00 pm.

Local DAR celebrates American heroes, community service at February events

Scottsdale-chartered Grand Canyon Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) promoted national society ideals of community service and patriotic recognition at February events.

Honored guests at the chapter’s February 6 meeting, held at Chaparral Suites Scottsdale, included program speaker Thomas Tudor, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Sentinel and Relief Commander, 3rd US INF Regiment, 1969-1970. Mr. Tudor travels as a service to schools and non-profits to share his experience guarding the tomb and the history of Arlington National Cemetery.

JTEDs to receive nearly full funding from state

Legislature nixes $30 million cut for technical career education

Phoenix – After a coordinated lobbying campaign by parents, students, teachers, school leaders and the business community, the Legislature on Wednesday reversed course and eliminated a $30 million cut to the state’s Joint Technical Education Districts.

Last year, legislators inexplicably changed state law to reduce funding to the 14 JTEDs by $30 million – or about 45 percent of state dollars – beginning in next year’s budget. However, the districts worked hard to convince legislators and Gov. Doug Ducey the money is needed to keep the schools open to as many students as possible.

Becoming an Outdoors Woman scholarships available

Apply now to attend April 15-17 event in Prescott

PHOENIX — If financial constraints are keeping some women from signing up for a Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) workshop, the Arizona Wildlife Federation is willing to lend a helping hand.

The organization has established full and partial BOW scholarships for women 18 and older who are full-time Arizona residents and never have attended a BOW event. A recipient may receive only one scholarship (full or partial) in her lifetime.
