Top CAP cadets in spotlight at National Cadet Competition

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Alabama. – Highly skilled Civil Air Patrol cadets from across America gather in Alabama at year’s end for the 2015 National Cadet Competition, renewing a prestigious CAP inspection and drill event that originated nearly 70 years ago.

Scheduled for Dec. 30-Jan. 2 at Maxwell AFB, the competition will be held in front of special guests that include senior U.S. Air Force and CAP personnel.

AZ Troopers sponsors annual Christmas Patrol Bear Program

For the 22nd year, AZ Troopers (Arizona State Troopers Association) is sponsoring the annual Christmas Patrol Bear Program. State Troopers and professional staff from the Arizona Department of Public Safety will be visiting children in hospitals throughout the state in an effort to spread some Christmas cheer.

Special tax bill includes extended help for charities

PHOENIX – President Obama recently signed into the law Protecting Americans Against Tax Hikes (PATH) Act of 2015, which renews and makes permanent the Charitable IRA provision of 2006, making it easier for Americans to give to causes they care about. This provision has the power to help local charities strengthen their communities by allowing individuals to roll over up to $100,000 annually from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to charity without being federally taxed. The bill was passed by the House and Senate in recent days.

Jubilate Music Program announces spring semester music classes beginning in January

CAREFREE – The Jubilate Music Program for children will offer spring semester violin, percussion, choir, and drama classes. The 17-week courses run from January 18-May 2, 2016. All classes take place at the Christ Anglican Church in Carefree, 35500 N. Cave Creek Road in Carefree.

Arizona Musicfest headlining concerts include superstar violinist Joshua Bell and legendary jazz vocalist Al Jarreau

PHOENIX ‒ 2016 is Arizona Musicfest's 25th Anniversary year, bringing superstar violinist Joshua Bell and legendary jazz artist Al Jarreau to headline the 6 week-long music event. The Festival opens January 29th and runs through March 11, 2016 with concerts held in North Scottsdale and Phoenix venues. For the 2016 Festival, Arizona Musicfest has added performances at La Casa de Cristo Church, due to its excellent acoustics and larger capacity to accommodate public demand.

ProMusica Arizona Chorale and Orchestra Announce January Auditions

ProMusica Arizona will be presenting two more concerts in the 2015-16 season. On March 5 and 6, we celebrate two of the most iconic of American music forms, the Broadway musical and jazz.  Selections from delta blues and swing to classic and modern Broadway favorites will be included. Performances will be in Carefree and Sun City.

Arizona fire fighters warn the public: Beware of phone fundraising scammers who claim to represent fire fighter

PHOENIX – The state’s two largest fire fighter organizations – the Professional Fire Fighters of Arizona and the United Phoenix Fire Fighters Association – today are issuing a warning to Arizona residents: Beware of scammer telephone solicitors who claim they’re affiliated with fire fighters groups and claim to be raising money to help burn victims.

63rd Annual Desert Foothills Christmas Pageant

We would like to give special thanks and celebrate the many years of commitment of Choir Director Steve Norris, Narrator Pastor Bob Hutson, and Toby Payne. Andrew Cupo, graduate of CCUSD and now Theatre teacher at Cactus Shadows, is in his 6th year as the Pageant Director. The beautiful luminaria trail is provided by Desert Foothills Key Club, sponsored by Kiwanis. Led by President Regan Anderson, the club consists of students from Cactus Shadows as well as local charter schools & home schools. Thank you for spreading the light!
