Composers through the ages have used machines as a source of inspiration for many of their compositions, and each piece performed at this season-opening concert will depict sounds of machines through music. From Haydn’s stately “Clock Symphony” to Anderson’s comic depiction of The Typewriter, this concert will explore 12 representations of machinery. Other notable works include Russian futurist composer Mosolov’s The Foundry, Henry Mancini’s Ohio Riverboat, John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine, Daugherty’s Route 66, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8, Mvmt 2 “The Metronome”. NVSO Youth Orchestra will additionally perform Meyers’ Steampunk and Ploeger’s The Machine.

“It seems that most everybody becomes infatuated with machines sometime during their lives. This concert will be very entertaining for audience members of all ages.” says founding Music Director, Kevin Kozacek. “Additionally, the orchestra members love playing this repertoire. It is challenging music, and great fun to play because we get to create sounds that are very unusual.” Kozacek is thrilled with the response and talent of over 70 adult community musicians who began rehearsals August 17. Both youth ensembles, NVSO Youth Orchestra and NVSO Symphonettes, have grown to more than a combined 55 members. NVSO Youth Orchestra began rehearsals August 24, and NVSO Symphonettes will begin rehearsals September 21.
