The event will kick off with a ground breaking ceremony for Phase II of PVCC’s Black Mountain campus expansion and construction of a new educational facility that will add 20,000 square feet of laboratory and classroom space.

Aquila Hall is a $10 million project designed by Dick and Fritsche Design Group (DFDG) that will house Science division courses (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Astronomy). The building will include three multi-purpose classrooms, two Science labs and one Science classroom, computer lab, tutoring center, astronomy high powered telescope and viewing deck, student study and collaboration areas, and faculty offices.

Paradise Valley Community College at Black Mountain has become known for hosting star parties under the exceptionally clear skies that characterize the area.  Thus, the new building is named after Aquila, a constellation in the northern sky. Its name is Latin for 'eagle' and it represents the bird who carried Zeus/Jupiter's thunderbolts in Greco-Roman mythology. The brightest star in Aquila is Altair, a white star that is about 17 light-years from Earth.

The project is funded by the 2004 General Obligation Bonds, and is scheduled for completion January, 2016.
