Student athletes succeed in classroom

Puma Athletics receives most academic awards in program history

PHOENIX – The 2013-14 Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) Pumas have earned the most team and student-athlete National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) academic awards in program history – with 11 team and 21 individual athlete honors. In addition, 32 Pumas have been awarded athletic and/or academic scholarships to transfer schools.
NJCAA All-Academic Team Award Winners (average team GPA):

Women’s Golf – 3.585
Men’s Tennis – 3.437
Softball – 3.369
Women’s Soccer – 3.283
Women’s Indoor Track – 3.213
Men’s Cross Country – 3.212
Women’s Outdoor Track – 3.174
Men’s Indoor Track – 3.107
Men’s Outdoor Track – 3.091
Women’s Cross Country – 3.084
Women’s Tennis – 3.048

The 21 individual awards breaks the previous record 14. Of the 21, two received the Pinnacle Award (*4.00 GPA), eight earned Superior Achievement (**3.80-3.99 GPA), and 11 earned Exemplary Achievement (***3.60-3.79 GPA).
