carefree firefightersThe Cystic Fibrosis Stair Climb and Firefighter Challenge was held at the Arizona Center on Saturday, Sept. 21. Spencer Peters, Clint Dunning and Scott Rasner competed against other firefighters from Phoenix, Tempe, Glendale, Gilbert and Apache Junction.

All firefighters were dressed in full turnout gear including air packs strapped to their backs. The first leg of the relay included a 4 story stair climb in the parking garage caring a fire hose on their shoulder, then hoisting a fire hose hand over hand which was tied to the end of a rope from the ground up the 4 stories.  That team member ran back down the stairwell to where the next one was tagged to start the next leg.

The second leg involved running through a maze of fire hydrants then using a sledge hammer on a sled where it had to be moved 10 feet. He then ran to the next station where he picked up a fully charged fire hose, ran 25 feet where he shot at a target with the hose until it fell down then ran to tag the third team member. The third firefighter had to drag a 175 pound dummy 50 feet while running backwards!! Our firefighter accomplished the task one handed!!
