A real “find” at the Carefree Kiwanis Flea Market, this wheat thresher, an early 1900s farm tool, can be displayed as a sculpture or used as a coffee table. At only $500 it’s a real deal, too. See contact information at the end of the accompanying article if you can’t wait until October to own it.

Discover a rare opportunity! There are loads of furnishings, electronics, exercise equipment, housewares, clothing, accessories and collectibles waiting to be scooped up at the Kiwanis Club of Carefree Flea Market and Marketplace on Saturday, Oct. 12, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Rain day is the following Saturday, Oct. 19.)

A striking example of a Flea Market opportunity is this collectible early 1900s farm tool or, depending upon your perspective, a sculpture or coffee table. The “sled,” with rocks imbedded in the wood, is a wheat thresher. It was pulled over the wheat to grind the wheat out of the stalk. The piece can be displayed upright as a sculptural element or, by using a setup on the bottom, displayed horizontally as a coffee table.

There is also, at the moment, a beautiful decorative Oriental grandfather clock at the Carefree Kiwanis Marketplace. According to the Marketplace staff, the figures on the outside case appear to be sculptured seashells.

“The warehouse is full of gently used merchandise that must be moved out,” said Dave Bell, Carefree Kiwanis Flea Market Chairman. “Our community has been overwhelming in their support for Kiwanis, the Flea Market and the Marketplace. We are grateful of their support and are working hard to handle all the extra donations.

“We have increased our Saturday morning pick-ups by one hour, and have doubled our pick-up crews on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If you would like to volunteer to help us out at the Flea Market warehouse, please call us at 480.488.8400.”

The Carefree Kiwanis Flea Market is located at Dave Anderson Memorial Building, 7177 E. Ed Everett Way in Cave Creek (southwest corner of Tom Darlington and Cave Creek Road).

Across the parking lot from the Flea Market, you’ll find the Kiwanis Club of Carefree Marketplace. That’s where quality clothing, accessories, jewelry, artwork, collectibles and unique pieces of furniture can be found. Special sales may take place throughout the month, so drop by if you’re in the area!

The Marketplace is open every Saturday, from 9 a.m. – noon; and, Wednesdays, from 1:30 – 4 p.m., at 7171 Cave Creek Road, Cave Creek. Look for the large Kiwanis Club of Carefree Marketplace signs.

Cash, credit cards and checks (with I.D.) will be accepted. All proceeds benefit the Youth Programs of Kiwanis Club of Carefree, a 501(c)3 organization.
