packages from home logoNORTH VALLEY – Last week Packages from Home donations from around the north Valley were picked up by Sanderson Ford and Lincoln and delivered to Packages From Home on the Phoenix Memorial Healthcare Center in South Phoenix.

We are so thankful to the folks at Sanderson for helping us with logistics and transportation, by providing and delivering the donation boxes the beginning of July and picking up the collected items in August.

Thanks also go to Fire Chief John Kraetz, who picked up donations from the three (Cave Creek, Carefree and Rio Verde) Rural/Metro Stations and delivered them to us for pick up at our office – twice.

In addition, Airpark Collision Center, Parkway Bank, Wilhelm Automotive, Scottsdale Desert Mountain Fire Station and both Sanderson Lincoln and Sanderson Ford volunteered as donation locations. We are grateful to everyone for welcoming our readers into their businesses in support of our troops. Kudos to Sanderson employees who were especially generous!

Our reader’s support of our troops is greatly appreciated. You will know how much you made a difference when you read the letter from an American soldier named Anthony on the Letters to the Editor page. You will also find a special request letter from Chaplain Dan. Thank you for your caring and generosity!

Jan Johnson, Packages From Home MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) Coordinator, received a special request this week. Let’s see if we can make Halloween happen! Here is the request Jan received from Afghanistan, where they would love to have unbreakable decorations and costumes for Halloween and unbreakable decorations for Thanksgiving:

For Halloween, we're going to try and see if we can put together some kind of party so if you come across any decorations or even costumes / masks that would help.

We can do it! To allow time for shipping and receipt by our soldiers before Halloween, Packages From Home will need to have the items on hand for packing by the first weekend in October. Next time you visit your local dollar store or party store, please keep our troops in mind. Pick out something fun and send it to Packages From Home or make a donation (mark the memo line on your check for Halloween) to help provide these needed morale builders! Checks and items can be mailed to Packages From Home, 1201 S. 7th Ave. Ste 50, Phoenix, AZ 85007. If you prefer to make a donation online, please visit packagesfromhome.org and click on donations.

Please take a moment to read the letters from Anthony, an American soldier in Afghanistan, and Chaplain Dan.
