Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center offers tobacco cessation and cardiovascular screening programs

CAVE CREEK – The Foothills Food Bank and Resource Center is offering tobacco cessation and cardiovascular screening programs in September.

The eight-week tobacco cessation program will teach individuals about the effects of tobacco, provide insight into personal motivators for tobacco use and help attendees quit for good with group support. The cessation program begins September 10, 2013 and will be held on Tuesdays from 5 – 6 p.m. at Foothills Food Bank. Registration is free by calling 480.882.4636. Trained tobacco treatment specialists will teach all classes. A minimum of eight participants is required for the class.

Beginning September 12, 2013, Foothills Food Bank and Resource Center will offer free cardiovascular screenings on Thursday from 8 – 10 a.m. Participants will learn about cholesterol guidelines and how controlling LDL or “bad” cholesterol can contribute to better heart health. All participants will receive educational materials, counseling and a copy of screening results to take to their physician. The free screening includes:

• total cholesterol and glucose checks
• blood pressure checks
• body mass index (BMI)

Fasting eight hours prior is required and attendees must drink water and take prescribed medicine as required. Registration is free by calling 480.882.4636.
