It’s a family affair at Red Truck Trading and Grotto Café

Shop for living room furniture, then enjoy lunch in same beautiful complex

CAVE CREEK – Red Truck Trading Company isn’t your typical consignment store. The furniture and accessories that owners Louann Robertson and Mike Seitts receive often come from people with second or third homes in places like Desert Mountain, Scottsdale, Carefree. It’s high-end rustic, modern, Tuscan, western, even island. With three showrooms, Red Truck caters to all markets and all tastes.
“We have art, everything from prints to originals, and prices range from $200 to $2000,” Robertson added.

Red Truck Trading is 80 percent consignment, but Robertson said they also purchase Old World/Hacienda-type furniture from Mexico. Some of the most popular items are head/footboards and buffets. Each can be specially ordered to fit a specific space or décor. Just ask! They can’t be more accommodating at Red Truck, going as far as to offer a 24-hour tryout period to see merchandise in one’s own home.

Fans of Red Truck (there are many since its opening in 2009) know fabulous finds come in daily, so they stop in often since they know most items are one-of-a-kinds. Furniture is grouped to fit a room or a space, and shoppers are often so impressed with the look they purchase the whole “vignette.”

After a fun day of furniture shopping, head on over to Grotto Café, tucked behind Red Truck Trading. Customers get the same family vibe, because it’s truly a family affair! Curtis Arny is co-owner with parents Robertson and Seitts.

Everything is fresh and filling on the menu, but some of the faves are the chicken salad sandwich on cranberry walnut bread, the pork carnitas, the breakfast burrito and even the biscuits and gravy. The gazpacho comes from a tried-and-true family recipe. Plus, some diners are still learning about the full liquor license at Grotto Café, so be sure to enjoy a Bloody Mary with breakfast or a glass of wine, beer or a Margarita with lunch. (Grotto is open daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

The goal at the Grotto, Arny said, is to have consistent great service and food, and foodies will agree he’s not only reached that goal but surpassed it!

Both businesses, at 6501 E. Cave Creek Rd., have a presence on Facebook, so be sure to “like” them.
