Free water safety classes in April at all YMCA locations

PHOENIX – Each April the Valley of the Sun YMCA dedicates the entire month as Splash month, offering free water safety classes at 15 YMCA branch locations throughout the Valley.

The Y is a true leader in water safety, having launched the nation’s first water safety and learn-to-swim campaigns in 1906. Splash month is designed to help people of all ages, especially children and families, learn basic swimming skills and water safety practices.

As the temperature officially hit 100 degrees April 1, now is the time to learn or refresh water safety rules and practices. The Splash month program includes basic swimming skills, backyard pool safety, beach safety, character development, pool safety, family activities, boating safety and parent education.

Teaching children and education parents and the public on basic water safety rules and tips will save lives. Warmer weather as we transition from spring to summer lures more children to the cool waters of backyard swimming pools, local creeks and lakes. In the first two months of this year, Greater Phoenix has already experienced several water incidents and one child fatality from drowning.
