McClintock spoils Feb. 4 ‘Senior Night’, 72-64; Notre Dame protects their Feb. 8 ‘Senior Night’, 65-51

To make State, Falcons ‘must win’ at Campo Verde, Wednesday night, Feb. 9

basketball seniors and parentsNot very comfortable to be photographed after a “Senior Night” loss; but seniors/Co-Captains Casey Perrin (l.) and Max Gersh so honored their parents, Janelle Perrin and Keith Perrin, with Cynthia Driskell and Cory Gersh. Great posters, Moms! Congratulations, players and parents, on your Falcon Basketball careers.  Photos by Pete Mohr

CSHS – Hoop Guys played two “Senior Nights” back-to-back. Lost ‘em both, as you can see by the above headline.

Friday evening, Feb. 4, Falcon fans were all set to honor senior co-captains Casey Perrin and Max Gersh. Terrific photographic banners of both players hung on the north wall of Barrett Gym. “The Roost” was rockin’ at full capacity. Somebody forgot to invite the McClintock Chargers to the celebration.  Their one-man scoring machine, Cameron Forte, hit every shot imaginable in putting up his 42 points. Our “4th Quarter Kids” couldn’t make it three magical Friday nights in a row; and the ‘Birds fell into a 3rd place Desert Sky deadlock with Poston Butte, over whom they hold the tie-breaker by virtue of their two wins over Poston Butte earlier in the season.

eric johnson Junior Eric Johnson’s 23 points led CSHS scorers against the winning McClintock Chargers on “Senior Night,” Feb. 4. Co-Captain Max Gersh (13) was the only other Falcon in double figures.

Problem is that to maintain the 3rd place tie that would qualify CSHS for the State Tournament (Playoffs), Falcons must regroup from an ugly 51-65 loss at Notre Dame (the game was not as competitive as the score might indicate), then make a l-o-n-g bus ride to southeast valley Campo Verde to take on the Broncos in the regular season finale. Win and the ‘Birds are Playoffs-bound.  Lose and their State hopes will be tied to A.I.A. Power Points rankings.  After Tuesday night’s stumble at Notre Dame, the Falcs are ranked 14th; but … automatic qualifiers from various Regions could deny them a Playoffs berth.

You can find the Thursday morning “verdict” at sonorannews.com. C’mon, ‘Birds!  After an exciting comeback season under the leadership of Head Coach Tyler Dummett and Assistant Coach Jamaal Scott, don’t let your fans and, most importantly, yourselves … down.
