‘Solid Seven’ could surprise!

For Lady Falcons Golf, their biggest non-Region rival is Notre Dame. On Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 15, Coach Mike Sarraino bussed his seven players down to north Scottsdale’s Sanctuary Golf Club, home course of the Lady Saints, who would win the tri-match (with Campo Verde) by the close margin of six shots.

You couldn’t blame Coach Sarraino for considering, somewhat wistfully, that any one of his “departed” golfers might have made up that six-stroke difference: five-sport athlete Beau Bremer (a 2009 transfer to Pinnacle); last season’s promising freshman Lilly Bartell (moved with her family moved to South Carolina); and junior Lindsey Weaver, who’s elected to concentrate on competing in American Junior Golf Association events. But that’s just this sportswriter looking for an “angle.” Coach Mike is more than enthusiastic about the seven girls who are teeing it up for him this season. He volunteered to Sonoran News, “What a great group of girls! They love golf, practice hard, and encourage each other as a team. It’s a privilege to coach seven such unselfish players. They’re improving every week. Come Regionals and State, they could surprise a lot of teams.”
