Busbee bows out of school board race

Three candidates vie for two four-year terms

CCUSD – Governing board member Janet Busbee recently withdrew as a candidate to retain her seat on the Cave Creek Unified School District board, leaving incumbent Susan Clancy, former board President Stephanie Reese and Kari Workman as contenders for two four-year terms on the November ballot.

Readers may recall Janet Busbee was elected to the remaining two years of Stephanie Reese’s term when Reese abruptly resigned following Superintendent Tacy Ashby’s resignation.

Busbee said she has a family situation that has required frequent travel out of town and didn’t think it was fair to the other board members for her to participate via telephone on a routine basis.

Cave Creek Support Our Students is holding a candidate forum at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5, two days before early ballots are to be mailed, at the Fine Arts Center located at 33606 N. 60th Street.

The moderated forum will consist of opening statements from each of the candidates followed by prepared questions and audience questions.

The Cave Creek Education Association (local teachers’ union) has already endorsed Reese and Workman.

While Cave Creek Support Our Students continues to engage in political activities and has stated it will endorse candidates if its committee is unanimous in its selections, it calls itself a “political advisory committee” to avoid having to register as a political action committee.
