FALCON FIELD – At mid-morning, Friday, April 30, I called my information “right arm,” Athletic Department Secretary Bonnie Nystrom to get the previous afternoon’s score, CSHS-Apache Junction, the Falcons’ finale of the 2010 regular season. “Falcons won,” said she matter-of-factly, 15-13. FALCON FIELD – On Wednesday, April 14 the Falcons, still reeling from their 15-3 “mercy” embarrassment on Tuesday at the hands of the Saguaro Sabercats, show up for practice to find Head Coach Mike Baker wearing Cincinnati Reds gear. The next afternoon, down at Catsville, the ‘Birds upset #1-ranked Saguaro, 2-0! Since that turnaround victory, they’ve insisted Coach Baker wear his “reds” to practice. Accordingly, Sonoran News hereby bestows upon “Coach Mike” a new nickname, “Big Red.” Are baseball players (at every level) superstitious? Nah! No way!
