Desert Forest to host 32nd annual Kiwanis golf tournament

CAREFREE – Golfers will get the rare chance to play on one of the finest courses around when the 32nd annual Kiwanis Club of Carefree Golf Tournament is held at Desert Forest Golf Club on Sept. 15.

Desert Forest is an exclusive private golf club where members are not normally allowed to bring visitors to golf. The annual Kiwanis tournament is the only time visitors are welcome.
The tournament will be limited to the first 110 golfers who sign up.

A lunch and silent auction will be held following the tournament.

Support of the Kiwanis fund-raiser allows the organization to fund its local youth and education programs.

Meet your candidates

NEW RIVER – The New River/Desert Hills Community Association (NR/DHCA) will be hosting its bi-annual “meet Your Candidates” night on Tuesday, August 12 at the Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church located at 42425 N. New River Road. The meeting will run from 7 to 9 p.m.

Candidates running for every open position in Congressional District 3, Legislative District 6 and County District 3 have been invited to attend. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet many of the individuals who are running for public office in our community. It’s your chance to listen to and ask questions about the issues that matter most to you.

‘Yours to Explore’ Essay Contest for kids and teens

CAVE CREEK – Phoenix Public Library announces a “Yours to Explore” essay contest designed to give kids and teens an opportunity to share what they like best about Phoenix Public Library. The contest runs Aug. 12 – Sept. 12 and is part of an on-going community awareness campaign reflecting the library’s new tagline, “Yours to Explore.” Contest winners will be announced Sept. 22.

The contest invites kids, ages 6 – 11, to write an essay about “Which Superhero would you like to explore Phoenix Public Library with and why?” and teens, ages 12 – 18, “Which rock star would you like to explore Phoenix Public Library with and why?”

Essays should be at least 150 words and dropped off or mailed to any Phoenix Public Library location to the attention of “Essay Contest” by 5 p.m. Sept. 12. Each entry will be judged on originality, composition and how creatively the question is answered. There will be two winners, one for kids and one for teens. A call for Artists

ANTHEM – Anthem is adding a new festival to its long list of community events. The 1st Annual Anthem Autumnfest is a fall celebration complete with an Arts and Crafts Fair, performing artists at the Amphitheatre organized by the Arts Council of the North Valley, beer garden and food court, pumpkin patch, pony rides, barrel rides, inflatables, petting zoo, and the Frazier Shows Carnival.

The Anthem Community Council announces a call for artists to apply for space in the Arts and Crafts Fair. The event will take place Friday, October 24 through Sunday, October 26, at the Anthem Community Park in Anthem from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Anthem Autumnfest is free and open to the public. This year, 6,000 to 8,000 attendees are anticipated.
