Who’s running Carefree?

This past September, a proposal for a $129,000 consultant was on the town council agenda. An expenditure significant enough to warrant robust discussion by the council. Did this occur? No. To the contrary, there was very little discussion (an all-to common theme at town council meetings), and yet, another unanimous vote. Carefree residents should demand that their town council members engage important topics and issues with thoughtful comments and insightful questions, demonstrating that they’ve done their homework. Town council meetings only occur once a month, so there is plenty of time for members to study the agenda. It’s dumbfounding to witness important spending decisions being made with such little discussion, questions, or critical thinking. Is the town council nothing more than a rubber stamp for decisions that have already been predetermined? It’s not what good government looks like.
