The CAVE CREEK DARK SKY INITIATIVE will host their 3rd Star Gazing Party event on October 15 at the Spur Cross Recreation Area parking lot from 7-8:15 pm. Hundreds of people are expected to attend, says Bruce Arlen, Founder of the organization. Also, a TELESCOPE Give-a-Way Raffle $10 Tickets (CASH ONLY).
Arlen remarked, “We had over 500 people at our previous “Outdoor Planetarium Show” last February. Mark Johnston, NASA Ambassador and Astronomy Expert sets up his deep space telescopes to transmit images in real time to four large monitor screens so the audience will see constellations, galaxies, nebula, star clusters and planets while learning incredible facts.
Also, Jupiter and Saturn (the Rings too) will be aligned for this next show.
Cave Creek Dark Sky Initiative (CCDSI) promotes the reduction of light pollution through education and information.
Light pollution obscures the night sky stars. “By shielding our lights and turning them off when not needed, we help keep the sky dark to enhance our ability to see the stars. Cave Creek can still see the Milky Way, yet even here it’s been diminished.
In many cities like Phoenix and even many areas of Scottsdale, the stars are simply not much visible anymore due to light pollution coming from so many unshielded and overused lighting sources,” Arlen said.
CCDSI is working towards helping the Town of Cave Creek, its residents, and businesses to become a real dark sky community/municipality through events like this and with the promotion of information and education regarding the town’s lighting statutes leading towards self-compliance, including promoting common sense and inexpensive ways anyone can utilize to improve their outdoor lighting.
To attend email your RSVP to: [email protected] and receive further details. CCDSI asks everyone to arrive no later than 6:15 pm for best seating positions and to avoid car headlights shining during the show. (Bring Lawn Chairs & Dress Warmly)
