Cactus Shadows welcomes new head football coach

Cactus Shadows High School is pleased to announce that Mr. Christopher Dixon II will be named as the new head football coach, pending governing board approval.

Coach Dixon comes to Cactus Shadows High School with vast experience at all levels. Dixon moved to Arizona within the last year and in that short time he has worked hard to develop relationships within the community, as well as throughout Arizona. He currently is the Arizona Rattlers quarterback and running back coach. As a coach of The Arizona Rattlers he has helped to create one of the most effective offenses in the Indoor Football League averaging 52.8 points per game. In the team’s first 10 games, they have combined for over 2500 yards of offense.

Prior to moving to Arizona he served as the Head Football Coach at Shepherd High School in Shepherd, Montana. During his tenure he helped to change the culture of the program to one of commitment and success. In his second year at Shepard they hosted their first home playoff game in 15 years and were named the Co-Conference champions.

Dixon attended Contra Costa College for two years before attending Humboldt State University, where he was an All-conference player. Coach Dixon also had tremendous success as a player on the field in the IFL. He is a four-time Indoor League MVP and an eight-time IFL Champion. He was awarded the IFL Offensive Player of the Year four times along with being selected for First-Team All-IF four times and a three time United Bowl MVP. In 2015 he was inducted into the IFL Hall of Fame.

To begin the transition to Cactus Shadow High School, Dixon will meet with student-athletes, coaching staff, and community members. He plans to be on campus working with the student-athletes next week. Coach Dixon is, “beyond blessed and excited to hit the ground running to build the Cactus Shadows brand!”

Athletic Director Drew Ammon says, “We are extremely excited to have Coach Dixon as the new leader of our football program. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and we are excited for him to be on our campus and work with our student-athletes.”

Principal Sarah Barela said, “I am excited to work with Coach Dixon. He brings a new perspective and energy to our Cactus Shadows Football Program and Athletic Department. He will continue the rich tradition of what it means to be a Falcon while providing new opportunities to our student athletes and community”
