Council approves Water Policy changes

CAVE CREEK — At the Regular Council Meeting on December 20, 2021, Town Council voted to approve changes to the Town’s water policy. This 2021 Water Resources Policy replaces the Water Policy first adopted by the Town in December 2017. The Goal of both policies was to help preserve the Town’s Water Resources and ensure that we can continue to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective water services to our customers.

The most significant change being proposed is to limit new water services in Desert Hills unless there is an existing contractual or statutory obligation to serve. Existing Will Serve letters are not considered a contractual obligation.

This revision reflects that Desert Hills does not have its own secure long-term water supplies. The Town of Cave Creek has been supplementing the Desert Hills water system with its own water resources since 2007. There is no general legal obligation for Cave Creek to use its water resources to support new services within Desert Hills when water is not available. The Town will continue to provide water services to the existing Desert Hills accounts, while working to identify new long-term water resources for the area.
