CAREFREE – While Chris Torres may be new to the Heritage at Carefree, she speaks very highly about the retirement living home. She moved to Arizona from California, following her three daughters who relocated to the Copper State. Torres didn’t have the opportunity to tour the facility prior to move-in but one of her sons-in-law plays music for residents once a month and sang the Heritage’s praises.
Having recently eaten lunch, Torres said the food is very good and tailored towards more mature folks with less “heat” and fewer spices. Those with digestive issues like the need to consume gluten-free fare are happily accommodated. “They cater to anyone’s needs,” she assured. “They also offer dessert twice a day!”

Torres left behind a home she loved, and though she no longer drives, she lived independently. She admitted she did not expect to like living in a retirement home but she embraced the Heritage right off! “The people are so pleasant and interesting! We have a van that takes us shopping on Thursdays. We go to lunch once a week. We have our own tables and get in groups with people we enjoy.”
Of course, her daughters visit often and shop for her as well. And, she often spends time with them in their homes. Once she has more time, Torres hopes to join in the exercise classes offered. “We have a game room upstairs and laundry facilities.” Heritage staff takes care of linens weekly. There are so many ways to keep occupied, even with a silly men-versus-the- women game of cornhole!
Torres marveled over the ambience of Heritage at Carefree. “It truly is elegant in the furniture and the art. It’s not boring and it’s comfortable. Friendly, always friendly.”
