Cave Creek Town Council: “Prior acts.”

The Dec. 16 meeting of the Cave Creek Town Council was not short on public input when it came to horse trails and parking – and the conflicts were resolved in different ways.

But first, following an extensive review of all the accomplishments throughout the past year by the Town Manager, attention turned to a numbers game. Namely, vacancies to be filled on the Planning Commission (2), the Water Advisory Committee (5) and the Board of Adjustment (2). The Planning Commission seats were filled, but not without confusion over nomination procedures. However, the remaining seats fell short on applicants, leaving the town attorney to suggest another round of advertising for applicants, an online education and/or the possibility of reducing the number of seats, but not without caution regarding even numbers and regulations. The net result: action was tabled.

Business is good. Parking is bad – two facts that were not in dispute. The frustration that comes with growth and success has, and will continue to present parking dilemas for the town. The current situation focused on Bella Vista Loop and the dangerous conditions during certain times – 2 lanes becomes one, darkness, pedestrian safety, etc. Ultimately, business owners and the town resolved to take more time (until March 16, 2020) to address contracts, insurance, alternative solutions and planning – something that the town sees as mutually shared prior acts that need to be remedied.

Giddyup. What few objections that were voiced over 2 trail-related items ($6,976.23 and $52,575.38) – construction of the Highland Loop, they were steamrolled by certain facts: safety, accessibility and a budget that already been allocated for it. While there are quite a few trails in the distance, there is no safe way to get there. Proponents maintained that this trail provides that service.

In other business:

– Expenditure of $92,023.00 was approved for 3 2020 trucks as fleet replacements.

– Contract not to exceed $124,985.00 with GHD Inc. for assessment of the Town of Cave Creek Wastewater Collection System was approved.
