CSHS’s Colin McConnon named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

Principal Jim Swetter and Colin McConnon

Cactus Shadows High School is pleased to announce that Colin McConnon has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Principal Swetter said, “Cactus Shadows is very proud of Colin for being named a National Merit Semifinalist!  Colin is an extremely hard worker and is very deserving of this recognition.”

This is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955.  Students enter by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.  This is the initial screening of approximately 1.6 million students each year.  Of the 1.6 million approximately 50,000 with the highest score qualify for this recognition.   They are designated either a Commended Student or a Semifinalist.  About 16,000 students are notified that they qualify as Semifinalists.  Colin is one of the highest scoring students in the state of Arizona.

Dr. Debbi Burdick, Superintendent said, “Once again, Cactus Shadows High School is proud to have a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist!  Colin’s hard work and tenacity has contributed to his ongoing success – Congratulations Colin!”

Although we won’t know until February if he’s been chosen to be a Finalist or not he certainly is showing his FALCON PRIDE!
