How to Chill Out in Hot Cabo

Mexico is one of my top destinations for a quick getaway from Phoenix, where I just visited Cabo San Lucas. While it’s a prime party destination – think bachelor and bachelorette parties – it has a very cool and sophisticated vibe for those interested in a more low-key vacation.

Easy Travel

Just an easy two-hour flight away, Cabo’s allure is its adventure activities, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, golf, fantastic food, privacy, and buzzy nightlife. My arrival was smooth and swift as I breezed through customs and to my waiting transportation.

The Sizzle

Its stunning beaches, deep azure water, vibrant nightlife, and luxury living are attractive. The world class resorts have beautiful 5-star spas, infinity pools, celebrity chef restaurants, and Michelin star cuisine. The A-Listers of Hollywood come here to get a little R&R, so you may spot a celebrity. You can choose resorts with everything included, everything a la carte, or something in the middle. Large families and groups traveling together have great choices for accommodations.

My Stay in Cabo

Nobu

Rather than place a restaurant in a hotel, celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa built a hotel around a restaurant. The ocean front Nobu suite is perfect to host a private dinner complete with chef, mixologist and live music. Cocktails are imaginative and delicious! The décor incorporates wood and stone from Mexico and the restaurants use fresh herbs and vegetables from the garden. In this relaxing resort, sushi is amazing, and the golf course is just steps away.

Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort

The Solaz is a new property with a very pretty aesthetic and accommodations to suit most everyone. I loved its open lobby, sports bar, swim up pool and swimmable beach with lifeguard. Choose rooms with private plunge pools for a romantic vacation. The residence suites offer a full designer kitchen, washer/dryer, living room, multiple ensuite bedrooms and wrap around ocean view patio with barbeque grill and jacuzzi to make you feel right at home.

Grand Velas

Grand Velas welcomes you with champagne and fruit caviar plus neck massage to help set the stage for a relaxing visit. All suites have an ocean view in this stunning resort where everything is included. Its seven gourmet restaurants are world class, including the acclaimed two Michelin star Cocina de Autor. This family friendly resort offers complimentary cribs, baby baths, and other amenities to make life easier when traveling with little ones. I enjoyed an exceptional massage followed by the hydrotherapy pool. The ice, sauna, steam, and sensation rooms were included in my spa experience.

El Pedregal

Talk about a grand entrance! To enter this luxury resort, you drive through a mountain tunnel where you are rewarded with stunning views of the sea. It’s in a prime location within walking distance of downtown. Spacious suites exude the essence of Mexican culture and style. The buzzy signature restaurant El Farallon is unique – striking cliffs on one side and the majestic sea on the other. Every table has a sea view.

Activities

Take the catamaran boat ride from the marina to the iconic Arch and Lovers Beach – the fresh air and stunning views make for a pleasant day. There are tons of activities available: snorkeling, scuba diving, sportfishing, golf, horseback riding, ATV tours, shopping, and more!

Great Vacation Choice

Cabo is an affordable and easy getaway from Phoenix and offers everything from a low-key experience to an action-packed vacation. When you’re looking for a quick getaway with a sophisticated vibe, Cabo fits the bill.
