Getting all pumped up

If you know your way around pumps, sweep devices, water, sewage and Excel spreadsheets, then the April 15 meeting of the Cave Creek Town Council was made for you.

Prior to getting to the agenda, there were a few citizens who addressed council on signage and pump spill issues during “Call to the public.”

Signage was brought to the forefront, again, as a local merchant complained on behalf of herself and others that some were given 7-day notices to remove certain signs or be fined. Determined to be “unconstitutional,” the current situation remains unresolved and the possibilities of lawsuits and the Goldwater Institute joining the fray still looms large.

Concerned homeowners spoke to the issue of pump spillage, both in terms of contamination and odor at the Rancho Manana station. It was determined that the cause was both equipment failure and over capacity use during Bike Week. Measures were taken to decontaminate and relieve odors, but comparative upstream and downstream samples were yet to be compared.

Future upgrades to accommodate specific events/usage were being looked at.

Appropriately, the agenda was devoted to related business put forth by the Utility Director. Both action items, $34,746.00 for replacement of the Water Treatment Plant surface Sweep Devices and $33,705.29 for replacement of the School House Booster Station were approved, unanimously.

The remainder of the meeting was devoted to the presentation of the Quarterly Utility Report for the 3rd Quarter of fiscal year 2018-2019. No action was needed.
