My 3 Tips on Proven Drug Free Pain Relief For Migraines and Other Headaches

Dr Leisa

If you suffer from migraines or other types of headaches, with no lasting relief, read on for my 5 tips on how to avoid medications and injections to help you feel better for good.

Tip # 1 Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine

For over 25 years, I’ve been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture. Acupuncture is a powerful treatment for migraines and headaches. There are specific points that are stimulated to reduce headache pain. With TCM, we do not necessarily treat the condition like Western medicine. We balance the body so it can affect chemicals, muscles, nerves, and other systems of the body so headaches may not happen to begin with. Once the body systems are balanced, the reasons you get a headache are prevented or corrected. Acupuncture needles are not large gauge needles similar to injection needles. They are very thin, hair-like, single use needles that are made of medical grade stainless steel. Once removed, they are placed in sharps containers and removed by special companies that dispose of medical waste. These needles are specifically placed in points indicated for your specific condition. This s not a cookie cutter process. A detailed history of your headaches are taken prior to your treatment. In some cases, cupping may be added to accentuate the process. I have had great results with acupuncture for migraines and headaches with my protocols over the last 25 years.

Tip # 2 Chiropractic Works for Headaches and Migraines

If you’ve tried chiropractic adjustments for your headaches, and it worked, great! You’re not alone. Studies have shown that chiropractic has not only reduced the frequency, but the intensity of headaches. Without drugs or medication. If you’ve tried traditional chiropractic adjustments for your headaches, and they did not work, perhaps it was the technique that was not right for your type of headache. Cox Technic is a gentle, science based technique that works. It has been written in journal articles since the 1970s. Please contact me or search for the history and more info on Cox. Since 1995, I’ve been certified in this technique, and like the technique itself, my protocols have evolved over the years. This technic does not involve popping or cracking of the neck like traditional chiropractic adjustments. This is a common fear for most patients. Combined with acupuncture and other therapies, I’ve been able to relieve patients form debilitating migraines and headaches for good.

Tip # 3 What Foods Can Help Relieve Migraines?

If you’ve been suffering from any type of headache, and your doctor hasn’t asked you for a food diary, there may be a problem. In so many cases, I’ve seen diet play a major role in my patients’ headache history. Food allergy tests may be done, but not always necessary. It’s not just about MSG any more. Artificial sweeteners, colors, other additives, GMO sources and more may be the culprit. Most patients who suffer from migraines and other headaches and migraines already know what causes them. Here are a few foods that may help stop them. Salmon, and egg yolks are rich in omega 3. These help with inflammation. Riboflavin is found in salmon as well. Good for managing headaches. Salmon can be eaten 2-3 times per week, but always be aware of how much fish you eat weekly for mercury and other heavy metal issues. Check out the seafood calculator on www.ewg.org Taking a medical grade Omega 3 formula can help with this, especially if you don’t like fatty fish. Foods high in potassium are good as well. Electrolyte imbalance is a common cause of headaches, especially here in Phoenix. Drinking reverse osmosis and bottled water has been stripped from minerals, therefore, it’s not good for replenishing electrolytes. Drinking an electrolyte formula that does not contain sugar is also important. Figs are high in potassium, and are grown here in AZ. Just watch dried fruits, as the high sugar content can be dehydrating. Shrimp is another good choice. It has astaxanthin that helps fight inflammation. Be sure and only eat wild caught, not farm raised. See my previous article on that.

I hope these easy tips can help you prevent migraines and other headaches. When patients are serious about changing their diet, and they receive the right drug free treatments, they respond well. I offer a complimentary consultation to see if I can help with your headaches. Please call my office for an appointment.
