Cactus Shadows’ Mark O’Bryan named NFHS Section 7 Coach of the Year

Cactus Shadows High School coach Mark O’Bryan has been recognized as the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Section 7 Coach of the Year.

O’Bryan, the Girls’ Golf coach, received the 2017-2018 award, which recognizes some of the top coaches in the country. In total, only 23 other coaches from high schools around the country were chosen for this national award.

O’Bryan has coached the Cactus Shadows Girls Golf Team to three state titles, according the Tahdehl Collentine-MacLean, who serves as Cactus Shadows’ Athletic Director.

Cactus Shadows High School is located in the Cave Creek Unified School District.

“We could not be more proud of Mark O’Bryan, the Girls’ Golf Coach at Cactus Shadows High School, being one of the 23 coaches from across the country selected as the NFHS Sectional Coach of the year. The time and effort he puts into building and developing his program and athletes does not go unnoticed”, said Collentine-MacLean.

Since 1920, the NFHS has been a leading organization in interscholastic athletics and performing arts. All 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, are associated with NFHS, with almost 8 million participants in high school sports, according to their website.

Dr. Debbi Burdick, the Superintendent of the Cave Creek Unified School District, added, “Cactus Shadows High School and CCUSD are so fortunate to have an educator and coach like Mark O’Bryan.  He is an exemplar as a coach and teacher, and we congratulate him on his latest honor and accomplishment”.
