Re: US Senate appointment

Dear Governor Ducey:

I an a fiercely Independent voter, to the political right of both John Wayne and Attila the Hun. My most frequent choice on ballots is expressed by my writing “NONE OF THE ABOVE” on the extra line of the form.

I must, however, thank you and congratulate you for having appointed Jon Kyl to fill the late Senator McCain’s post in the US Senate. The other logical and appealing choice would have been the equally-qualified John Shaddegg.

Governor, you dodged an electoral bullet by not appointing Grant Woods to the post! You would have alienated most conservative and Republican (not necessarily synonymous terms nowadays!) and committed political seppuku in November.  Grant Woods is the preeminent political meretrix in Arizona, a wind-vane, an airfield wind-sock drifting the way the political breeze demands. I would not have voted for your communist opponent; instead, I would have written “NONE OF THE ABOVE” as my choice for governor of this state.

Governor, I will be proud to vote for your re-election in November!

Sincerely,

J-P. A. Maldonado
