Valley memorial events to commemorate 9/11

On Tuesday, several events around the Valley will be open to the public to commemorate September 11th.

Gilbert

In Gilbert, the Fire and Rescue and Police Departments will host a memorial event beginning 6 p.m. at Gilbert Town Hall.

The Campo Verde High School and a pipe and drum band will play music and local public officials have been invited to speak. A lighted memorial in the sky will be visible from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Tempe

The 15th annual Tempe Healing Field, showcases 3,000 flags to represent the 3,000 people who lost their lives on 9/11. It is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Tuesday at Tempe Beach Park. A memorial service will be held at 5:46 a.m. and later in the evening a candlelight vigil will be at 7 p.m.

Glendale

In Glendale, the Fighter Country Foundation will host a special memorial event that allows participants to climb 2,071 steps in honor of the number of steps taken by first responders. The event will take place at Gila River Arena beginning Tuesday at 8 a.m. and going until 10:30 a.m.

Luke Air Force Base will also host an event in Glendale and will consist of a ceremony Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m., which the time when the first plane struck the North Tower of the Twin Towers. During the ceremony, speakers and emergency responders will share personal experiences of the day.
