ADOT begins I17 project to improve travel to Flagstaff

Arizona Department of Transportation started a project Monday, April 30 that will provide drivers a smoother surface. 28 miles northbound Interstate 17 leading to Flagstaff, a stretch battered roads will be repaved.

In addition to the repaving that will take place just north of the Coconino County line at milepost 312, the estimated $24.4 million project will also rebuild 2 miles of the heavily traveled interstate between mileposts 312 and 314.

With road improvement, comes delays. If you have plans to travel to Flagstaff this summer, plan for extra travel time. Travelers should be aware that the one-lane restriction will stay in place until the middle of summer and a lowered speed limit will be enforced throughout the lane restriction. The majority of the work will be completed by the fall, with additional work occurring next spring.

In addition, the project will also replace the bridge decks in each direction on the I-17 overpass at Willard Springs Road. Periodic closures of Willard Springs Road and ramp closures will take place during this improvement period.
