It’s not uncommon to see red and green in Carefree in December for Christmas, but the colors of the Italian flag were in abundance on Saturday and Sunday April 14 and 15 as the Italian Festival came to Carefree. Carefree has the most Italian restaurants per capita than anywhere else in Arizona so an Italian Festival was a perfect fit for the town.

Attendees were treated to food, games, cars, and competitions all with an Italian theme. A Bocce Ball court was set up on Easy Street, kids gathered at a table set in the middle of the street for spaghetti eating contests, while adults jumped into wooden tubs for grape stomping. The organizers plan to make this an annual event and the turnout would seem to support that idea. Carefree Councilman Mike Farrar, one of the organizers, said it was a great event for the town and wanted to thank the many volunteers who made the festival possible.
