Uber tragedy in Tempe

To: Editor Prescott Daily Courier

The video clearly shows Rafaela Vasquez’s three chins compressed as she is fixated on something at lap level. Tempe Police Department should have taken custody of thee “safety” driver’s mobile phone to determine whether she was texting or viewing a video at the time of the crash. If so, she should be criminally charged with NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE.

One hopes she will not get a PC pass just because she is female, Hispanic and a convicted felon.

Reporter Laurie Roberts is on target by questioning what Uber driver Rafaela Vasquez was doing instead of monitoring the road for safety risks.  The video shows Vasquez’s three chins compressed as she views something on her lap. I hope Tempe Police Department had probable cause to take custody of Vasquez’s mobile phone to determine whether it was being in use at the time of the crash.  If so, the criminal charge should be for NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE, as this may have been a preventable death..
