At the Jan. 8 Work-Study/Special Meeting, the Governing Board voted in their new President, Cynthia Weiss, and Vice President, Kathryn Hill.
President Weiss has been a member of the Governing Board since 2015, recently serving as Vice President. Cynthia and her husband Ron have lived in the CCUSD community since 1997 and have one daughter who attends CCUSD schools. Cynthia holds a BFA with specialization in Graphic Design from ASU. She also earned an international-equivalent MFA from the Basel School of Design, Switzerland. She has been volunteering in CCUSD since 2008, serving in various advocacy and marketing capacities. Cynthia is a two-time recipient of CCUSD’s “HUG” award in 2008 and 2010; she was a visiting artist/patron at HTES (NEHS legacy mosaic bench project); she served on the Joint Legislative Study Committee on school funding in Arizona’s 51st Legislature; served as a trustee for the Cave Creek Unified Education Foundation; and currently serves as Director of Communications for the Arizona Department of Child Safety, where she enjoys doing her part to help Arizona’s most vulnerable children and families thrive. “I love this community and could not be more proud of our schools. CCUSD is a leading innovator in P-12 education. I encourage anyone “feeling the tug” toward school or community volunteerism to choose an interest and get started on one of the most rewarding journeys of your life. There is so much to do! Vice President Hill has been a member of the Governing Board since 2017. Kathryn and her husband Jim have lived in the CCUSD community since 2002 and have two children who attend CCUSD schools. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in Economics from the University of Oklahoma. She has been an active classroom and school volunteer, serving on the executive board of the LMES PTO, as well as president of both the STMS and CSHS PTOs. She has served on district level committees and also as a parent representative on the school site councils at LMES, STMS, and CSHS. Kathryn was a substitute teacher in CCUSD for five years. “CCUSD is an excelling district in academics, athletics, and the arts, and my goal as a board member is to support the district in its efforts to inspire excellence in our students.”
