PHOENIX – Coaches build confidence and teach skills to their players, just as mentors encourage their mentees to reach their fullest potential. This is the inspiration behind Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona’s baseball-themed Pitch In for Kids dinner and fundraiser. Hosted by Paul Horton, KPHO CBS 5 Chief Meteorologist and former Big Brother, Pitch In for Kids will celebrate mentoring and highlight the positive impact these relationships have on families, schools and communities. Special guests include baseball legend Luis Gonzalez of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone, Major League Baseball players, community leaders and friends of BBBSAZ. The Pitch In for Kids Grand Slam Sponsor is QFR Solutions, additional sponsors include Copperpoint Insurance Companies, Fry’s Food Stores, KEO Marketing and many more.

Guests will “warm-up” at a cocktail reception where they will meet Big and Little “Matches”, and have an opportunity to purchase Mystery Boxes containing items valued at $100 and more. Guests will enjoy dinner and be inspired by speakers Gonzalez, Sheriff Penzone, BBBSAZ President and CEO Laura Capello. Event Co-Chairs Casey and Teresa Strunk will join Capello on stage to present awards to the top three Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Year. Big Brother Ray and Little Brother Evan will share their journey and how they have been impacted by the power of mentorship.

“Today, children face tremendous challenges, but through effective and sustained mentoring, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona can help make a positive and measurable difference in their lives,” said Laura Capello, President/ CEO for BBBSAZ. “We depend on the support of our local community to help raise vital funds needed to continue to match more children with caring, supportive mentors.  Pitch In for Kids is a great way for us to showcase the positive impact our Bigs have on their Littles through their dedicated mentoring relationships.”

As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages six through 18.  We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
