In a showdown of two top 10 division 4A teams, Cactus Shadows methodically won each individual quarter over the Sentinels, and came away with a convincing 58-39 victory in front of a boisterous home crowd. Both teams are known for spreading the floor and hitting shots, but each team came out with high energy, active defense, making buckets scarce early. The Falcons did not allow the Sentinels to get in rhythm from 3 point range, as the Sentinels missed their 1st four shots from deep, and CSHS grinded to a low scoring 9-4 lead going into the 2nd quarter.

The Falcons took a 10 point lead into halftime, and broke the game open in the 3rd quarter, with strong perimeter defense and rebounding. The Sentinels were 6 of 25 from 3 point range for the night, and not able to keep pace with the Falcons.

“Very pleased with the way we defended the arc” said Head Coach Zach Washut after the game. “We knew they were a very good 3-point shooting team and we practiced contesting every shot for the days leading up to the game.”

When asked how he felt about the big win, Coach Washut said “Always nice to beat a top 5 opponent at the Nest. The crowd, student section, and energy was great. Good team win.”

Junior CJ Nnorom lead the Falcons in scoring with 19 points on the night.
