Falcons Boys Basketball Get Road Win at Saguaro

Cactus Shadows gets the victory 74-66 versus Saguaro Sabercats, Tuesday, 1/16/18.

This was a great matchup of two talented teams in a gym not lacking energy for the players and the fans. Saguaro came out strong from the start, with nice guard play, and knocking down perimeter shots, to jump out to an early lead on the Falcons, taking a 17-10 edge after the 1st quarter of play. CSHS, with a rare stretch of poor shooting in the 1st half, found themselves in catch up mode, but used a late run to close the gap to 37-31 at halftime.

Perhaps from a nice halftime chat from Head Coach Zach Washut, the Falcons found another gear to start the 2nd half, and came out with better defense, and started getting shots to fall. The Falcon boys took the lead late in the 3rd, and were up 44-41 going into the fourth.

The Falcons would not give up the lead in the fourth quarter, with timely buckets, and one of their better stretches from the free throw line this season. Juniors Duncan Hearn, Sam Goulet, and Jake Benci all made pressure packed FT’s in multiple trips to the line, to keep the Falcons on top, and hang on to a well deserved 74-66 road victory. Goulet lead CSHS with 17 points in the game.
