Annual No Pants Light Rail Ride set for early January in Phoenix

It’s that time of year again, it’s the annual No Pants Light Rail Ride.  On January 7, Improv AZ, will be encouraging Phoenix Rail riders to forgo their pants during their daily commute.

This crazy tradition began in 2002 in New York City, when Improv’s Everywhere, urged people to ride the subway system dressed in normal attire, save for a pair of pants. It was a success and has spread across the U.S. to a number of other cities.

This year’s event will begin at 1 p.m. and end about 4 p.m. Participants can RSVP on Facebook

Participants will meet at Desoto Central Market near Central Avenue and Roosevelt Street for a mid-ride break.

The key to the event is acting like everything is normal, even though you and your fellow Rail riders will be without pants.

Organizers encouraged everyone to act natural on the ride and do whatever they might do during their commute. If anyone asks why they are not wearing pants, have a simple explanation on hand, such as “Oh, I got hot.”

Participants were also cautioned to comply with police. It is not illegal to wear underwear in public — aside from thongs and G-strings — but organizers said private parts must be fully covered.
