Honor the Code

George B. Willie Sr. was laid to rest Monday 12/11 in the cemetery at the Navajo Army Depot in Bellemont, Arizona. At the invitation of my friend Bob Kenneavy, and former Marine, I stood the flag line back-dropping the Honor Guard up from Sacaton.

George was one of the elite World War II Navajo Code Talkers who baffled the Japanese in the South Pacific theater saving untold thousands of American lives. Their code was never broken.

On Monday the 11th, dozens of American flags fluttered in a brisk cool breeze as over 300 attendees assembled to bid their final respects to this WWII hero. Many were Navajo, many military, from all branches, many veterans and all there to show their respect to a great Marine. It was a privilege, no an honor I will not soon forget.
