Governor Ducey To Volunteer At St. Mary’s Food Bank

PHOENIX For the third year, Governor Doug Ducey will participate in the annual Thanksgiving Holiday Food Distribution at St. Mary’s Food Bank on Wednesday, Nov. 22. During his visit, Governor Ducey will assist in packing and distributing traditional Thanksgiving meals to families in need, before visiting with community volunteers to thank them for their service.

Our state becomes an even better place when we give of ourselves,” said Governor Ducey. “So many of our fellow citizens are in need. I encourage everyone to find a way to give back and serve others this holiday season with your time, talent and resources.”

Started by John van Hengel in December 1967, St. Mary’s Food Bank celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. St. Mary’s has now distributed more than 1 billion meals to the hungry of Arizona in its history, serving as the model for how food banks across the United States and across the world are entrusted with the task of effectively distributing food to those in need.

St. Mary’s thanks Gov. Ducey for again helping us distribute holiday food to those in need,” said St. Mary’s Food Bank President and CEO Tom Kertis. “We expect to have as many as 12,000 families visit the food bank in the three days prior to Thanksgiving. Whether it is filling food boxes or supporting the passage of the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit, the Governor is always ready to roll up his sleeves and help Arizona’s hungry.”
