AZDPS has just announced a “no leeway” plan to cite drivers going even one mile over the speed limit. It is legally proper enforcement. However, I find a severe lack of enforcement of the HOV user hours. I frequently drive AZ101 from Chandler to I-17 and back during the restricted hours, and have observed that over fifty percent (50%!) of the vehicles merrily tooling along AZ101’s HOV lanes contain only the driver! The fine for this violation is a mere $400. I Perhaps the fine should be raised to $1,000, where it really hurts. Time for the Arizona Legislature to put some teeth into the driving regulations.
