Early morning crash leaves path of destruction

car accident

CAVE CREEK – Robert Sexton, who owns Out West Interiors and Furnishings in Cave Creek, woke up just after 4 a.m. on Sept. 15 to some very loud banging noises.

Realizing it was too early for the trash truck to be working, Sexton, who lives on a dirt road in the unincorporated county island just south of Lone Mountain Road, went outside to see what was going on.

car accidentWhat he found was his fence and desert landscaping destroyed, his trash dumpster, which was heavily damaged, was heaved over his fence, landing approximately 100 feet away from where it was originally sitting, and a completely totaled red car full of beer bottles.

car accidentMaricopa County Sheriff’s Office was apparently called by another neighbor and deputies were already at the scene.

As Sexton understands the situation, the vehicle belongs to a neighbor but was loaned to and being driven by someone else, who apparently crawled out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Sexton said a witness indicated the vehicle was traveling down the dirt road at speeds of up to 100 MPH prior to the collision.

The vehicle has since been towed off Sexton’s property and MCSO is investigating the incident, while insurance companies evaluate all the damage.
